Bluetongue Discovered on Calabrian Cattle Farm

ITALY - One case of bluetongue has been reported in the region of Calabria in southern Italy in November 2013.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 6 dated 24 December to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a single clinical case of bluetongue in a herd of 25 cattle at Nicotera in Calabria on 19 November.

The virus was subsequently identified as belonging to serotype 1.

The source of infection is described as 'unknown or inconclusive'.
