AHDB Market intelligence (MI) will give an overview of the outlook for the sector in the cattle and sheep breakout session during the event at One Great George Street in Westminster on Wednesday, 12 February 2014. EBLEX export manager Jean-Pierre Garnier will also examine export market developments.

Debbie Butcher, AHDB MI/EBLEX senior analyst, said: “The beef and sheep breakout session will focus on sector-specific issues and opportunities which are likely to shape the development of the industry over the next year.”

Food and Farming Minister George Eustice will address representatives from the beef, lamb, pork and dairy supply chains when he opens the conference, jointly hosted by the three livestock divisions of the AHDB − BPEX, DairyCo and EBLEX – together with AHDB MI.

Factors that will affect businesses in their respective sectors, including supply chain matters, international trade developments and how the UK industry can respond to emerging opportunities and threats are due to be covered in the programme.

In the plenary session, Connor McVeigh, director of supply chain for McDonald’s UK, will look at how the UK supply chain for livestock products has responded to the challenges it has faced over the last 18 months and what this will mean for the future. Richard Brown, director of GIRA, will speak about how Free Trade Agreements and other developments affect the UK industry. Separate breakout sessions will follow, looking at latest forecasts specific to each sector.
