Kerala Government Ban Cattle and Meat Imports

06 December 2013

INDIA – Cattle and meat imports into the state of Kerala have been outlawed as part of efforts to reduce Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) spread.

The Kerala government has announced the ban, coinciding with border check points to monitor cattle movement, reports the New Indian Express.

There does not extend to milk and dairy or poultry industry, according to Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, K P Mohanan.

District collectors and other government authorities will enforce border controls.
