Roma and Dubbo Yardings Increase Thursday

AUSTRALIA - Cattle supply at Roma Prime rose 49% from last week, with a full panel of processors operating and keen to secure good quality bullocks, write market analysts at Meat and Livestock Australia.

Heavy D4 yearling heifers to slaughter averaged 174¢, while the C4 bullocks to processor orders gained 8¢ on 191¢/kg. Heavy D4 beef cows increased 1¢ on 152¢, while heavy C3 bulls to process reduced 7¢, to average 159¢/kg.

There was another large yarding at Dubbo this week, with good supplies of young cattle as well as a fair selection of plainer cattle from the far west, add the MLA.

Medium C3 yearling steers to feed eased 2¢ on 174¢, while the equivalent heifer portion lost 1¢, to average 153¢/kg. Heavy C4 grown steers to slaughter gained 2¢ on 185¢, and medium D3 cows to process sold 3¢ higher, to average 131¢/kg.

Numbers at Bairnsdale remained relatively steady week-on-week, with yearlings mixed in quality, while cows sold to varying demand. Heavy D3 yearling heifers sold to slaughter 4¢ lower on 160¢, while the D3 bullocks to process averaged 7¢ cheaper on 162¢/kg. Medium D2 manufacturing dairy steers gained 1¢ on 134¢, while heavy D3 beef cows increased 2¢, to average 131¢/kg.

At the close of Thursday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) gained 1.75¢, to settle on 315.50¢/kg cwt. Trade steers were firm on 177¢, while medium steers were back 3¢, to average 171¢/kg. Feeder and heavy steers increased 1¢ on 180¢ and 185¢, respectively, while medium cows also gained 1¢, to average 131¢/kg.
