A compensation package of 25,000 rupees has been proposed for farmers who have lost cattle to disease, according to the New Indian Express.

H D Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal party issued a statement in the New Indian Express stating that the floods and droughts experienced by Indian farmers make the added burden of foot and mouth disease very hard to handle.

He also called on the government to buy more medicine to combat the disease and to invest in the veterinary services.
