Vaccination Not Required For Bluetongue
BRAZIL – A technical collaboration has unanimously decided that there is no justification for the import of vaccines into Brazil for Bluetongue disease.

The livestock department of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation decided that a minor isolated outbreak does not require a vaccination response.
It was concluded that, as long as the disease could be contained, there was no need to import and deliver vaccines.
This follows an isolated outbreak in which the Culicoides midge has caused illness in a herd.
Farmers have been told that there is little chance of their cattle catching the disease.
Bluetongue symptoms, such as weight loss, decreased milk yield and abortion can be attributed to other conditions, explained Guilherme Marques, DSA Director.
