Almost a third of the 158 cattle on a farm in Mkwasine have been diagnosed with the disease.

The holding where the outbreak was confirmed is a self-contained beef farm close to a wildlife conservancy with wild buffalo.

Measures such as quarantine, zoning and control of wildlife reservoirs have been put in place.

The notification is a recurrence of a previous outbreak in April and was reported to the World Organisation for Animal health by Dr Unesu Ushewokunze-Obatolu, Director at the Division of Veterinary of Field Services.
