The forum, which replaces the current Halal Steering Group, will help steer EBLEX-funded work to support the halal sector.

“The halal sector is a very diverse one and having this type of forum regularly will give the opportunity for all the different parts to come together to discuss what they feel should be the priorities to push the sector forward,” said John Cross, EBLEX chairman, announcing the move.

“The Halal Forum will seek to engage with the full spectrum of the Halal sector representatives. There will be no specifically appointed members but will be open to anyone who has an interest in the Halal sector, ensuring transparency and openness in discussion on relevant issues.

Through the meetings, EBLEX hope to gather opinion to steer their own activity. One objective is to include the Muslim community, added Mr Cross.

“I would like to thank the members of the steering group who have been involved over the last three years and hope they will continue to work with us through the forum.”

The move to establish a forum was ratified by the EBLEX board last week. The date and exact format of the first session have yet to be decided, but is likely to take place before the end of the year.
