OIE Reports Another FMD Outbreak in Xinjiang

CHINA - The Chinese veterinary authorities have reported another outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Xinjiang affecting cattle populations.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 2 on 15 May, stating that out of 331 susceptible cattle, 106 cases were reported. All 331 animals were destroyed.

Several control measures such as stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, zoning, disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s) and dipping/spraying have been applied by the OIE, in conjunction with the country's concerned veterinary authorities.

The source of the outbreak(s) remains inconclusive.
