Farmers Association Launch Fodder Crisis Fund
IRELAND – Farmers struggling in the worst forage crisis in living memory are to receive aid from the Irish Farmers Association (IFA).

Launched on Wednesday, the Fodder Crisis Fund has amassed €1 million which will be used to help needy farmers in the form of transport subsidies as forage is transported from marts and private merchants.
The fund has been put together by combining IFA resources with generous contributions from the Irish Farmers Journal, IFAC Accountants, IFFPG, Origin Enterprise and FBD Insurance.
“Farm families are making major personal and financial sacrifices to ensure that their livestock were fed. Now that imported forage is required in increasing amounts, it is important that costs are kept to a minimum,” said John Bryan, IFA President. “The fund will be used to provide a transport subsidy to the marts and private merchants, which are importing forage, but have no access to the Government’s transport subsidy scheme which is operated through the dairy co-operatives only”.
Transport subsidies from of €500 per load will be provided with €750 per load being available for hauliers covering greater distances of over 250 km.
Mr Bryan stated that the support will be maintained until the middle of May.
