Aiming to clarify the governments of Japan, South Africa and China on the non-classical case of the agent of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) has sent official missions to these countries.

The three countries have received information from the Brazilian government on the issue and the Agriculture Ministry said that further clarification will be provided in the coming days.

The Executive Secretary of the ministry, José Carlos Vaz said: "It is natural, upon learning via press release, that the reaction of some countries should be cautious."

Brazil is also intensifying contacts with the main importers of Brazilian beef.

They will be given all the information to trading partners of Brazil in the world.

"The Brazilian Veterinary System is one of the best in the world and soon the negotiations will be normalised," said Agriculture Defence Secretary , Ernie Marques.

Brazil is the second largest exporter of beef in the world. Between January and October this year, Brazil exported 1.024 million tonnes of beef.

China, in the first 10 months of 2012, bought 10,100 tonnes of beef from Brazil, Japan purchased 1,300 tonnes and South Africa, 293 tonnes.
