Irish Cattle Slaughterings Rise

IRELAND - The number of cattle slaughtered in Ireland in October was 1.8 per cent higher than in October 2011, according to figures from the Irish Central Statistics Office.

Pig slaughterings for the same period rose by 8.6 per cent, while sheep slaughterings increased by 33.8 per cent.

The number of cattle slaughtered in January-October 2012 was 11.4 per cent lower than the corresponding period in 2011.

Over the same period there was an increase of 10.4 per cent in sheep slaughterings and an increase of 4.3 per cent in pig slaughterings.
