According to Meat and Livestock Australia, exports to Russia, Brazil and China have been robust throughout 2012, assisted by lower export prices throughout the year.

Exports to Russia increased 121 per cent from January to August 2012, totalling 96,478 tonnes swt. Paraguayan beef export price during August reportedly averaged 377US¢/kg – five per cent cheaper than Brazilian beef and 14 per cent cheaper than Australian beef for the same period. Helping Paraguay exports throughout the year has been an increase in shipments to Brazil, up 93 per cent year-on-year, to 12,872 tonnes swt, along with Hong Kong (up 310 per cent, to 2,007 tonnes swt). Chile, previously a major market for Paraguayan beef, will re-open their market for Paraguayan beef in January 2013.

The United States of Agriculture, Livestock and Poultry: World Markets and Trade forecast Paraguayan beef exports to rise four per cent in 2013, to 250,000 tonnes cwt.
