Negotiations for access to South Korea's beef market have been ongoing for nine years.

"Finally out animal health status has been recognised by South Korea," Mr Mayol said.

Beef will have a duty free quota of 400 tonnes a year through the free trade agreement.

Chilean beef production reached 191,000 tonnes in 2011, of which 4,000 tonnes were exports.

In September, South Korean officials visited Chile to inspect farms and processing establishments.

Beef exports to Chile have been allowed since October 5th.
