Leo, who ranches in Santa Maria, California, boluses his calves at five months old when they are branded.

There is a serious copper deficiency on his ranch.

“We have found that Copasure is the best way to get the copper into the animals," he said.

In the past he had used copper injections but the deficiency was so great that 2cc at weaning was insufficient. “We now just give Copasure to the cows once a year, at pregnancy testing time. It seems to be sufficient," said Leo.

The ranch has a combination of sandy loam and dark clay soils.

He said he would recommend Copasure as essential on all beef systems.

“I remember years ago helping someone with their cattle who didn’t give copper supplementation at all. The cattle were really thin and the black cattle showed the deficiency in particular, they had dead hair, almost white hair. They had really severe diarrhea and were weak. If there is no copper supplementation at all it is really apparent in the cattle.”
