Andy Foot, a fifth generation commercial mixed arable and beef farmer, farming 650 acres in Dorset, was appointed to lead the group last month.

The group held its latest meeting this week (Thursday) with cattle EID and animal health and welfare on the agenda.

Mr Foot said: “The long term signals for the future of the industry are encouraging. The beef sector is in a far better position now than it has been for a number of years and the time is right to reap the rewards of current prices and drive the industry forward in an effort to improve profitability and efficiency.

“The success of Great British Beef Week, launched by the Ladies in Beef this week, highlights both the quality and value of great British beef to consumers.”
