Paraguay Expects FMD Free Status Within a Year

PARAGUAY - Dr Felix Otazú, of SENACSA, has estimated that in only a year the country will be able to request reimbursement of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) free status from the OIE which was lost in September 2011.

ABC reports that Mr Otazú added that negotiations are already well under way with Argentina and Brazil to raise the Paraguayan beef income by allowing exports back to these countries.

"Brazil already has an agreement with Paraguay to market our meat products," said Mr Otazú.

"We are also seeing development of a new FMD Vaccine Plan."
