The app, which is free and available to download for iPhone and Android, won the top app accolade in the recent Scottish Creative Awards, judged by a selection of Scotland's biggest names in marketing and design.

It is aimed at helping consumers master the art of cooking the perfect roast or steak to make the most of the world famous Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork produced in Scotland.

Suzie Carlaw, Quality Meat Scotland Marketing Controller, said the new app had taken three months to develop and will be a useful aid for cooks of all ages and skill levels.

She said: "The app is primarily aimed at reaching the younger generation, which relies more and more on modern technology, but aren't overly confident cooking from scratch.

"It offers basic cooking instruction in an engaging way and hopefully will help even the most inexperienced cooks gain the skills and confidence to cook perfect beef, lamb and pork steaks and roasts."

The app features easy-to-follow instructions, mouth-watering recipes, tips and shortcuts and a simple to use touch test. It also features a timer and alert function, preparation advice such as how to choose the perfect cut and the importance of removing meat from the chill to stand for a short period before cooking.

Since the launch at the Royal Highland Show in June, the app has been downloaded nearly 5,000 times, and is now being promoted on selected advertising and at consumer events.

Ms Carlaw added: "What we are aiming to do is bring tradition and innovation together so the latest technology can help consumers get the best from our wonderful, traditionally produced beef, lamb and pork."
