Cattle On Feed Up Five Per Cent

US - The latest statistics from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows that cattle on feed for September was up five per cent.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the US for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totalled 10.7 million head on 1 September, 2011.

The inventory was five per cent above 1 September, 2010. This is the third highest 1 September inventory since the series began in 1996.

Placements in feedlots during August totaled 2.25 million, one per cent below 2010. Net placements were 2.18 million head.

During August, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 715,000, 600-699 pounds were 370,000, 700-799 pounds were 477,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 690,000.

Marketings of fed cattle during August totaled 2.05 million, seven per cent above 2010.

Other disappearance totaled 72,000 during August, 53 per cent above 2010.
