New South Wales Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) agronomist, Neil Griffiths, said the Grassland Society of NSW has organised the event at Tocal College, Paterson on Thursday 22 September, with support from Meat and Livestock Australia.

“Presentations will focus on the changing climate and soils of the region with information about pasture management to suit local enterprises,” Mr Griffiths said.

“We will also be discussing management options to incorporate new hard-seeded legumes into farming systems and developments with ryegrass and fescue which will be of interest to producers.”

Soil carbon too, is on the agenda with information on how pasture production can be managed to enhance soil carbon levels.

NSW DPI staff will be joined by dairy, beef and sheep producers who will provide insights into successful management systems they have adopted.

Mr Griffiths said Tocal staff would discuss the simplified grazing management system for dairy farms – ‘Managing pasture for profit’.

“Participants will also be able to hear from producers who are employing rotational and cell grazing and a New Zealand system known as 'technograzing'," he said.

An open forum will discuss the benefits of the various grazing systems.
