Strong Supply Of Steers To Markets

Numbers were fairly stable at Toowoomba, with heavy steer and bullocks well supplied.

Yearling steers to feed were six cents dearer on 218¢ as a run of certified grainfed heifers averaged 174¢/kg. Medium weight grown steers reached 174¢, while the bullocks were three cents cheaper on 172¢/kg.

Lean cows mainly made 126¢ and the better quality pens were on 143¢/kg.

Throughput was mainly unchanged at Tamworth with young cattle dominating supply.

Medium feeder steers sold to solid competition and were firm on 198¢, while a fair run of heifers to restockers sold from 188¢ to 200¢/kg.

Heavy steers were mainly four cents higher on 175¢, and good heavy cows made 153¢/kg.

Supply fell moderately at Wagga and quality was good. Light yearling steers to feed and restock reached 227¢, while the medium weights to feeders settled on 198¢/kg.

Heavy steers to the trade were on 194¢ and the heifer portion was strong on 183¢/kg. Heavy grown steers topped at 196¢ and averaged 189¢, and the best of the heavy cows mainly sold at 152¢/kg.

After Monday's markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) was eight cents higher for the week on 380.5¢/kg cwt. Trade steer prices remained unchanged on 212¢ and feeder steers eased one cent to 200¢/kg.

Heavy grown steers were three cents dearer on 180¢ and medium cow finished one cent lower on 137¢/kg.
