The Fodder Bank Is Now Open

UK - The NFU is urging farmers left short of cattle feed or bedding by the low levels of rain this year to take advantage of its Fodder Bank scheme.

The free member benefit helped hundreds of members in 2008, who posted what they were selling or searching for on a dedicated NFUOnline web page. It proved a boon to livestock farmers through two consecutive wet summers and now, following the exceptionally dry start to the year, we’re hoping it will again help to address shortages in feed stocks.

NFU farm inputs adviser Peter Garbutt said: “The fodder bank service was launched after experiencing some of the wettest summers in history, but it was equally effective during the water shortage last year.

“After a dry start to 2011, we hope members use this free service to help off-load any surplus requirements which others are so desperate for during this difficult spell.”
