More Foot and Mouth Disease in South Africa
SOUTH AFRICA - The South African veterinary authorities have reported four more outbreaks of foot and mouth disease (FMD).The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up no. 2 yesterday, 23 March. According to the report, the affected population consists of cattle. The outbreak took place in two regions - KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
A total of 116112 cattle were found susceptible to the disease, out of which 60 cases were identified. No deaths were recorded, and no animals were destroyed.
According to the report, although some NSP ELISA tests were positive, most NSP ELISA test results are inconclusive. To date, no FMD virus could be isolated.
The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
