“Senator Dorgan and Jim Hightower were both tremendous,” said NFU President Roger Johnson. “Our members really benefit from learning about agriculture policy from those with an insider’s perspective. It is especially great to hear from Senator Dorgan, who grew up in Farmers Union and really believes in the values of this organization.”

The day also featured speaker panels on a variety of subjects, including the 2012 Farm Bill, biotechnology, US trade relations and sustainability. “We were pleased to be able to offer our members speaker panels on a wide variety of topics,” said Mr Johnson. “By helping to inform our members, they really get a sense of what is going on in agriculture. This information allows them to make informed choices when voting on NFU policy for the coming year.”

Farmers Union delegates also passed three special orders of business during the policy session covering topics such as the 2012 Farm Bill, the historically wide basis on grain commodities, and clean energy.
