“We may be in the Waikato but like all Kiwis we’ve been devastated by what we’ve seen and read,” says Tim Aitken, Greenlea Premier Meats Chief Executive Officer.

“While we’re not the largest meat processor we are a family business. It’s hard seeing fellow Kiwis in strife so with our 350 employees we wanted to do something real to help out.

“Our staff immediately started collecting money and raised $50,000 after Greenlea matched it. It was a great effort by hard working Kiwis who care and who want to help the people in Christchurch.

“We are very proud of our hard working staff so we’re making a further $100,000 donation bringing the total to $150,000.

“Through ‘Meat the needs of Christchurch’, Greenlea’s farmer suppliers now have the means to grow this sum even larger. All they have to do is tell us the value they want to donate to Christchurch and we’ll take care of the rest.

“As a company, Greenlea Premier Meats believes the Adverse Events Trust is a good charitable vehicle to use for this donation.

“Every dollar donated will go to Christchurch and the trustees will pass our donations onto a number of reputable registered charities working for the people of Christchurch. The one thing we and our staff don’t wish to see is our money going to administration.

“As it comes from the heart and the pockets of our hard working staff, we want every single dollar to help people in need,” Mr Aitken concluded.

“Federated Farmers’ Adverse Events Trust is delighted to receive its first major donation to Meat the needs of Christchurch,” says David Rose, Federated Farmers Adverse Events spokesperson.

“It reflects the strong vein of generosity that lies inside the meat and fibre sectors on both the farmer and processor side. We all want to help Christchurch and every dollar put into the Adverse Events Trust for Christchurch, will go to Christchurch,” Mr Rose finished by saying.
