Speaking to TheCattleSite Editor, Charlotte Johnston, Keith Miller, Chairman of the US Meat Export Federation said that this was something that the organisation was watching very closely.

"We understand that things which are acceptable in the US, are not always accepted in some of our export markets," he said.

Mr Miller said that USMEF was working closely with the OIE, and its international trade standards team, and hoped that these differences could be put aside. He hoped that with the use of scientific evidence, the OIE trade standards would recognise that US meat is safe and tasty.

And if they don't recognise this? "USMEF will continue to work with and negotiate with the OIE and US export markets."
