Strong Korean Beef Demand
AUSTRALIA - Disrupted Australian supplies, combined with the foot-and-mouth-disease (FMD) crisis in Korea, resulted in strong interest for Australian beef from Korean buyers - despite increased offer prices, reports Meat and Livestock Australia.

Korean wholesale prices for domestic beef and pork have risen gradually since the first FMD outbreak was reported on 29 November 2009. However, Hanwoo prices did come down slightly earlier this week, as Korean processors in non-infected areas worked overtime, as producers sold uninfected cattle.
In response to the FMD and short supply, prices in the Korean wholesale market for imported beef cuts increased across the board.
