New England Farmers Union Hosts First Convention
US - New England Farmers Union (NEFU) will host its first annual convention today, 15 December, in Leominster, Massachusetts.

National Farmers Union (NFU) President Roger Johnson will meet with New England members to commend them for their hard work and discuss legislative priorities for 2011.
“New England Farmers Union has experienced tremendous growth recently,” said Johnson. “NFU is proud of the work the staff and members have done in the last year to grow and become an active part of the Farmers Union family.”
Johnson will also discuss upcoming priorities for NFU in the coming year.
“We will continue to work with Congress and the U.S. Department of Agriculture on improving our dairy programs, to help make prices more stable for producers,” said Johnson. “NEFU has been very active in the support of food co-ops and buying locally grown food. NFU is working on the national level to ensure policies are in place that encourage consumers across the country to do the same.”
NFU’s president will laud NEFU members for their role in agricultural education.
“NEFU has been leading the way with supporting initiatives like USDA’s Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food and the Farm 2 Fork project,” said Johnson. “Educating consumers about where their food comes from is critical to our success. By leading the way on local initiatives, NEFU will continue to grow and thrive. The activity and growth experienced by NEFU this year is something that we can all learn from. Thank you for putting so much time and energy into making New England Farmers Union a success.”
