AUSTRALIA - Supply picked up at Dalby with a large representation in all categories. Lightweight yearling steers to feed averaged 217¢ with the heavyweights around 185¢/kg, reports Meat and Livestock Australia.

Light yearling heifers to the trade were firm, making 196¢/kg. Heavyweight grown steers and bullocks were 5¢ to 6¢ cheaper at 177¢/kg. Medium and heavy cows were firm averaging from 145¢ to 152¢/kg.

There was a reduction of both young and grown cattle at Casino with most categories slightly cheaper. Vealer steers to restock averaged between 223¢ and 235¢ as the light heifers to slaughter were down 4¢ - to 228¢/kg. Medium grown steers to restock averaged 159¢ as the medium D3 cows mostly sold around 142¢/kg.

Numbers were steady at Warrnambool and quality was varied throughout the sale. Medium weight vealers to the trade averaged 203¢ as the yearlings made around 197¢/kg. Heavyweight grown steers and bullocks were firm to 8¢ dearer and mostly averaged in the mid 170¢/kg range. Medium D3 cows averaged 150¢ with heavyweight dairy pens around 142¢/kg.

The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled at 361.25¢ after Wednesday’s markets to be 5.50¢/kg cwt cheaper than last week. The trade steer indicator was 2¢ cheaper on 188¢ and feeder steers were 1¢ lower at 194¢/kg lwt. Japan ox finished 3¢ lower on 178¢ while medium cow was up 1¢ to be 140¢/kg lwt.
