AUSTRALIA - Despite some isolated showers in the district numbers grew to a higher level at Toowoomba. Lightweight yearling steers to feed and restock were firm, selling between 214¢ and 220¢/kg, reports Meat and Livestock Australia.

Heavy yearling heifers to slaughter averaged 3¢ dearer, around 176¢/kg. Heavy grown steers eased 2¢ to 184¢ while bullocks gained 2¢ to 187¢/kg. Heavyweight D4 cows eased 6¢ to 136¢/kg.
Numbers more than halved at Tamworth following good rain in the area. Lightweight yearling steers to restock averaged 219¢ as the medium weights to feed were 2¢ cheaper at 196¢/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers to feed eased 2¢ to 189¢/kg. Heavyweight grown steers were firm around 177¢ with medium cows also firm mostly selling around 140¢/kg.
Supply increased significantly after a small sale last week at Wagga. Medium yearling steers to feed gained 3¢ to 194¢, while the heavyweights eased 3¢ to 188¢/kg. Yearling heifers to feeders sold to a dearer trend with the heavyweights around 177¢/kg. Heavyweight grown steers were steady on 176¢ as heavy D4 cows averaged 150¢/kg.
After Monday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) was firm on last week at 364.50¢/kg cwt. The trade steer indicator settled 6¢ cheaper at 187¢ and feeder steers were 1¢ higher at 194¢/kg lwt. Japan ox eased 1¢ to 180¢ and medium cow finished 3¢ cheaper on 138¢/kg lwt.
Numbers were again limited at Dubbo after some weekend storms. Most young trade weight pens were $4 to $6 cheaper with the heavy trades selling around $120/head or 486¢/kg cwt. Heavy old lambs were also cheaper, averaging $121/head. Sheep were scarce and the Merino ewes to slaughter mainly sold from $70 to $95/head or around 350¢/kg cwt.
Lamb yardings returned to normal at Bendigo as new season lambs were the majority. Light lambs to restockers were firm at $93/head. Trade weight pens were up to $12 cheaper, mainly averaging from $105 to $114/head or 452¢/kg cwt. Heavy lamb prices slipped $8 and mainly averaged 441¢/kg cwt.
After Monday’s markets the eastern states restocker lamb indicator had eased 11¢ for the week, to 524¢/kg cwt. Merino lamb values jumped 13¢ - to 417¢, while light lambs were firm on 470¢/kg cwt. The trade lamb indicator was 6¢ cheaper on 476¢ and heavy lamb was firm at 463¢/kg cwt. Mutton prices remained stable and finished on 355¢/kg cwt.
