The sacrificial animals put the health and lives of citizens at risk, especially butchers, as they carry pests on their skin and these pests may become vectors of transmitting many deadly diseases, an expert told The Pakistan Daily Times.

Talking about preventive measures, Pakistan Veterinary Medical Association founding member and a renowned researcher Dr Aslam Jelali said awareness among citizens is essential. The buyers should pay proper attention on the health of the animal and the veterinary sector can play a significant role, he added.

He said the government should ensure medical checkups and vaccination of animals before allowing them from entering cities. The government should establish check posts on all highways entering cities to issue health clearance certificates for healthy animals, he added.
