Lightweight yearling steers to feed and restock averaged around 212¢ as heifers to feed eased 2¢ to 196¢/kg. A large number of bullocks averaged 4¢ less making from 170¢ to 188¢/kg. Medium cows averaged 129¢ as the heavyweights eased 4¢ to mostly sell around 150¢/kg.

More cattle were offered at Pakenham although quality varied, some extra competition from interstate buyers helped strong demand. Medium weight vealer heifers to the trade sold 5¢ dearer around 205¢ as the medium yearling steers gained 3¢ to 199¢/kg. Heavyweight yearling steers improved 3¢ to 7¢ with the heifers firm around 189¢/kg. Heavyweight grown steers averaged 188¢ with the bullocks around 186¢/kg.

After Monday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) had gained 2.25¢ for the week to settle at 375.50¢/kg cwt. The trade steer indicator was 199¢ and feeder steers improved 1¢ to 200¢/kg lwt. Japan ox improved 2¢ to 188¢ and medium cow eased 3¢ to 144¢/kg lwt.

Numbers increased at Bendigo and quality was excellent across the grades. Light lambs to feeders were $6 cheaper, as most pens settled at $87/head. Trade weight lamb prices eased $3 to mainly average from $110 to $123/head or around 490¢/kg cwt. A larger yarding of heavy lambs remained firm, ranging from $129 to $143/head.

After Monday’s markets the eastern states restocker lamb indicator has slipped back 47¢ for the week to 509¢/kg cwt. Merino lamb prices were 27¢ cheaper on 424¢, while light lamb settled at 456¢/kg cwt. The trade lamb indicator was down 12¢ - to 483¢ and heavy lambs fell 15¢ to 466¢/kg cwt. Mutton finished 35¢ cheaper on 387¢/kg cwt.
