More of China's Cattle Hit by FMD

CHINA - The Chinese veterinary authorities have reported two further outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in the country.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 15 on 31 August. According to the report, both outbreaks occured on 23 August.

The first outbreak occured at a village in Qinghai. A total of 39 cases were identified, while 163 were found susceptible to the disease.

The second outbreak took place at the animal health inspection station of Er Ba Tai in Xinjiang. In total, 8 animals were found to be affected while 22 showed signs of susceptibility. All susceptible animals were destroyed.

The cause of the outbreak has still not been determined.
