CIMIE: China Looks to Sustainable Production of Safe Meat

CHINA - The Chinese government has promised to back the sustainable and hygienic production of meat and food, writes TheCattleSite senior editor, Chris Harris from the China International Meat Industry Summit in Beijing.

Ms He Luli, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Tenth National People's Congress and president of the China Meat Association said that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to the development of agriculture and animal husbandry.

She said it is critical to solve the issues of farming, animal husbandry and meat and food safety.

She said the government is backing measures to strengthen agricultural policy, coordinate the industrialisation of meat production modernise rural agriculture and improve the stable development of agriculture as well as improve incomes.

"The reform and development of the Chinese meat industry must be promoted realistically," said Ms He.

She said the government and industry should accelerate the developments and strengthen financial support to regions of large pig and cattle production.

She said there was a need to keep a balance in the market between supply, demand and issues of meat safety.

"We will expand the opening up of the farming and animal husbandry industry and actively intensify exchange and cooperation with other countries throughout the world," said Ms He.
