Run by Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC), the animal welfare certification program shows that the Certified Humane® label on meat, poultry, egg or dairy products means they were produced according to HFAC’s standards for humane farm animal treatment.

The chain of four restaurants in the Miami area serves Certified Humane® beef exclusively sourced from Meyer Natural Angus Beef.

Meyer Natural is also supplying Albert’s Organics, the nation’s largest organic fresh food distributor, with its new line of Certified Humane®, all-natural meats and ground beef under the new Heartland Meadow brand, which complements Albert's existing line of organic meats sold under the Grateful Harvest brand. Meanwhile, Lime Fresh is also taking steps to certify other meats.

In order for the restaurant to be Certified Humane®, it is audited to ensure that the products they advertise as Certified Humane® can be identified throughout their handling, cooking and serving process. Once they have passed inspection, the restaurant is awarded a certificate of certification and may use the certification mark to identify the Certified Humane® products they serve.

Restaurants must reapply to the program and be re-inspected on an annual basis. The certification process includes the auditing and inspection of all procedures, facilities, receipts and sales records.

“Having the beef we use in our restaurant Certified Humane® is particularly important to us," said Lime Fresh CEO and founder John Kunkel.

"We work every day to capitalise on our distinctive flavors, fresh ingredients and customer service; but always to do this in the most respectful and dignified way possible."
