Print This Page OIE to Study Meat Production and Climate Change
GLOBAL - The World Animal Health Organisation (OIE) is expected to produce an environmental report on the role on meat in climate change by the summer.The report follows discussions earlier this year at the OIE's 77th General Assembly when climate change and its impact on animal disease were discussed.
The report also comes in the light of concerns that have been raised about the amount of methane produced during the rearing of animals for meat.
Now the director general of the OIE Bernard Vallat said the report, which comes at the request of member states, will look at the way meat production effects climate change and what effect an increase in meat production will have.
It is anticipated that demand for meat will rise by 50 per cent by 2020.
