Sell Finishers as Heavy Stores For Profit

NORTHERN IRELAND, UK - Selling heavy stores to British feeders instead of to slaughter will earn more money, says National Beef Association (NBA) Northern Ireland chairman, Oisin Munion.

Mr Munion is dismayed at the current slaughter price of 252p per deadweight kg (dwkg) in Northern Ireland. Competitors in Northern England are currently receiving 285p and in Scotland up to 294p.

Selling store cattle in mainland markets, Mr Munion says, sidesteps the unnecessarily low factory prices and puts more money in farmers' bank accounts.

He says that the 45p per dwkg, or £130-140 per head income difference has become to great to ignore.
