Defra and FSA have published a joint paper that considers the operation of GM regulations and UK imports of food and animal feed commodities.

The paper fulfils the following two commitments made in the Government's 2008 'Food Matters' report:

  • That Defra, working with the FSA, would publish an analysis of the potential impacts on the livestock sector arising from global trends in production and the current operation of the GM approval system in the EU, and
  • In parallel, the FSA, working with Defra, would publish an analysis of the extent to which changes in the market affects the regulatory system for GM products (including animal feed) and the implications for UK consumers.

'Food Matters: One Year On' was published on 10 August 2009. It provides an update on the actions identified in last year's 'Food Matters' report. To view this update, click here.
