NSW Farmers Association Lobbies for Grazing Trials

AUSTRALIA - Delegates to the NSW Farmers’ Association’s Annual Conference have today voted to lobby the NSW Government and the wool, meat and dairy research and development corporations to continue their research on the evaluation of grazing crops using livestock.

NSW Farmers’ Association President Jock Laurie says these research trials are the only ones in the country that objectively assess the grazing value of new crop varieties under different environments.

“Recent funding cuts to the NSW Department of Primary Industries has resulted in a number of research trials being wound back, including independent grazing crop trials,” Mr Laurie said.

“This leaves producers with no option but to source data from trials performed by seed companies, which may not be the most objective of sources.

“Livestock producers have today voted for the Association to lobby for Government run trials to be reinstated, ensuring producers have access to independent information, allowing them to make the best decision on the crop/pasture varieties available for their grazing stock,” Mr Laurie said.

Livestock producers from across the State are among 400 delegates to the NSW Farmers’ Association Annual Conference. Today is the third and final day of Conference, taking place at Sydney Showground.
