Scottish Government Backs Scotch Premier Initiative

28 October 2008

SCOTLAND - Scotch Premier Meat is one of a number of Scottish businesses to benefit from a Scottish Government grant.

The National Food Processing, Marketing and Co-operation Scheme, part of the Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP), has awarded around £16,000 to Scotch Premier Meat to help create a tripe processing area.

Scotch Premier Meat is a part of the ANM Group.

A company spokesperson said: "The meat industry as a whole is looking for ways to add value to the ‘fifth quarter’ and tripe production is a key factor in attaining that goal.

"Processing and selling tripe is now far more viable than in recent years as the worldwide export market is open. The initiative by Scotch Premier Meat is a reflection of the keenness of the industry to reduce its operating costs and add value to its products whilst retaining the excellent reputation Scotch meat enjoys.

"It is good to see the Scottish Government looking for ways to help the red meat sector and back innovative solutions to the challenges it faces."
