UAE - Rastelli Foods has launched its Pureland Black Angus beef in the Middle East. The US-based company, which has offices in Bahrain, Dubai and Kuwait, is the only supplier of 100% pure Black Angus in the region, after being certified by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA"All of our cattle are genetically tested to prove that they are pure Black Angus. There are a lot of companies saying they offer Black Angus, but this isn't always the case," said Rowan Davis, director, international sales, Rastelli Foods.
"Our beef is tested through a new system from ViaGen, which uses genetic testing to verify the genetic heritage of animals sold as ‘Angus'," he added.
Other than a registered pedigree, a DNA test is the only way to confirm the genetic heritage of Angus beef, with ViaGen comparing samples against more than 275 registered bulls.
Offering whole primal cuts of beef in the region, Rastelli also offers a range of portioned meats, which its hopes to expand over the next 12 months.
"The US military is also a big client for us. We supply meats to their bases in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, with around 250 40ft containers exported each week," commented Davis.
With high marbling scores, more than 68% of Rastelli's cattle are in the upper two thirds of choice and prime cuts, with a USDA representative inspecting each animal to ensure quality control.
