Iodine shortage

We have a problem with deformed calves caused by iodine deficiency. All breeding stock have been bolused with agrimin organic and none have been coughed up as far as we can tell. Last calf born appears to have goitre. Any one know of supplies of iodine only boluses (soil assoc.dont like added vitamins). Any bright ideas about causes?

Hello Goldfish, welcome to the forum. I use loose minerals with salt as a free choice lick, the main deficiency in my soils is selenium. Sometimes a deficiency is caused not by the lack of the mineral, but due to other factors preventing the absorption of the mineral,if you have a local research facility or agricultural college, you might be able to trace the problem starting with soil and possibly blood tests to see what is lacking, and what is present that is possibly detrimental to iodine absorption.

Done most of that, part of the problem is heavy rainfall so I can't be alone with this. I will talk to vet again tomorrow. Thanks for the reply
