Default Composite breeds - fad or future?

For many years, the established registered breeds of cattle were the normal trend, with managed crossbreeding used to bring in desirable traits while benefiting from the added performance through heterosis. In recent years there has been an increasing trend towards breeding hybrids into pure, composite stock, some are recognised breeds, while others have been bred by companies or individual ranchers/farmers for their own specific needs. Will composites be the normal trend for the future, or will it lose popularity as a "fad"?
